Who we are (data controller)

The website www.taste-of-french.com (the « Site ») is operated by Lisa DUCHAUFFOUR, sole trader (entrepreneur individuel, EI), whose registered office is located in Remiremont (France), registered under SIRET No. [98837212400012].

This policy explains how we collect, use and protect your personal data, in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and French data protection law.

Article 02

What data we collect

Account data. When you create an account: username, email address, display name, an encrypted password and your registration date.

Learning progress. To provide your dashboard, badges and progress tracking, we record your activity on the Site’s learning tools:

  • Quizzes — your attempts, scores and completion dates;
  • Dictations — the dictations you mark as completed;
  • Articles — the articles you mark as read, and the ratings you give them;
  • Flashcards — the practice sessions you start and the categories you complete;
  • XP points — the experience points earned through these activities.

Bookings. When you book a lesson or club session through our booking system: your name, email address and the details of your booking (date, time, type of session).

Chat messages. The Site includes an instant chat between students and the teacher. Your messages are stored on our server so that the conversation can be displayed to you and to the teacher.

Purchases. When you buy a Premium subscription or a lesson, our shop (WooCommerce) collects your name, billing details, email address and order history, and generates the corresponding invoices. We never see or store your full card details: payments are processed by Stripe, which acts as an independent data controller. We store the expiration date of your Premium access.

Technical data. Like most websites, our server may automatically record technical information (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and maintenance purposes.

Article 03

Why we use your data

  • To provide the service — account, learning progress, dashboard and badges (performance of a contract);
  • To manage your bookings — organising and confirming lessons and club sessions (performance of a contract);
  • To operate the student–teacher chat (performance of a contract);
  • To process your orders — purchase, invoicing, access management (performance of a contract and legal obligations);
  • To follow your learning journey — the teacher can view your results and progress in order to adapt the content and support you (legitimate interest);
  • To communicate with you — answering your messages, sending essential service emails such as order or booking confirmations (performance of a contract / legitimate interest);
  • To secure and maintain the Site (legitimate interest).

We do not sell your personal data, we do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers, and we never use your data for third-party advertising.

Article 04

Cookies and local storage

The Site uses a small number of cookies and browser storage items, strictly necessary for it to work:

  • Login cookies — set by WordPress when you sign in, to keep your session active;
  • Shop cookies — set by WooCommerce to manage your cart and checkout;
  • Language cookie — set by Polylang to remember your language (FR / EN / 日本語);
  • Consent cookie — set by Complianz to remember your cookie preferences;
  • Preference storage — we use your browser’s local storage to remember, for example, that our Premium popup has already been shown to you. This information stays in your browser and is not transmitted to us.

These items do not track you across other websites. You can delete them at any time through your browser settings, and manage your preferences through the cookie banner.

Article 05

Third-party services

  • Stripe (payments) — processes your card payments under its own privacy policy: stripe.com/privacy;
  • LWS — Ligne Web Services (hosting) — the Site, its database and our emails are hosted by LWS (10 rue Penthièvre, 75008 Paris, France). All LWS servers are located in France, in ISO 27001-certified data centres: your data remains within the European Union;
  • Google Fonts — some pages load fonts from Google’s servers (fonts.googleapis.com). When this happens, your browser sends a request to Google, which may receive your IP address. Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
Article 06

How long we keep your data

  • Account, learning progress and chat messages — for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account (or ask us to), this data is deleted;
  • Booking data — kept for the time needed to manage your sessions, then archived or deleted;
  • Order and invoicing data — kept for the legal retention period applicable to commercial and accounting records in France (up to 10 years);
  • Technical logs — kept for a limited period for security purposes.
Article 07

Who can access your data

Your data is accessible only to the Site administrator and to the service providers listed above (LWS for hosting, Stripe for payments), strictly to the extent necessary for them to perform their services. Your learning results and chat messages are never shared with other students or made public.

Article 08

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to rectify inaccurate data, to erase your data (« right to be forgotten »), to restrict or object to certain processing, to receive your data in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@taste-of-french.com. We will respond within one month. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the French supervisory authority, the CNIL (www.cnil.fr).

Article 09

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data: encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, restricted administrator access. No system is ever completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe and will inform you in the event of a breach affecting your rights.

Article 10

Children

The Site is intended for learners of all ages, but the creation of an account and the purchase of a Premium subscription by a minor under 15 require the consent of a parent or legal guardian, in accordance with French law.

Article 11

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we add new features. The date at the top of this page indicates the latest version. Significant changes will be announced on the Site.
